About this wine
Ruffino has made its Orvieto Classico since the 1960s. The grapes come from Umbrian vineyards at 150–250 metres on clay-rich tuff, the volcanic rock on which Orvieto itself is built, and the wine is made in stainless steel; Ruffino credits the cool, constant temperatures of cellars cut into the tuff for slow, careful fermentation.

Ruffino is a Tuscan wine house based at Pontassieve, near Florence. In 1890 the Duke of Aosta made it supplier to the Italian royal household — the origin of its Riserva Ducale, made since 1927. Today it has three estates and more than 200 hectares in Chianti Classico, plus estates elsewhere in Tuscany, and also makes wines from Orvieto, Veneto and Friuli.
