About this wine

Les Ailes de Mercuès takes its name from the winged helmet of Mercury, messenger of the gods. It comes from the château's high-density vineyard on the old alluvial terraces of the Lot, is aged twelve months in stainless steel and rests six months in bottle before release. 2020 was a warm, dry 'solar' year, rescued by mid-August storms that let the grapes finish ripening. The result is supple and round: red fruit with peppery spice on the nose, then real amplitude and soft, velvety tannins.

from the producer

Château de Mercuès overlooks the Lot valley near Cahors; once the summer residence of the bishops and counts of Cahors, it has belonged to the Vigouroux family — Malbec growers since 1887 — since 1983. Half of its 32 hectares of clay-limestone vineyard is planted at 6,666 vines per hectare, far denser than the Cahors norm.
