About this champagne

2017 was a year of contrasts in Champagne: spring frosts, a hot, dry summer and rain in late August that brought rot pressure. Strict selection left a very small harvest, with ripe Chardonnay and scarce but balanced Pinot Noir. Dom Pérignon chose to make the wine anyway, as a record of the vintage.

It is pale yellow with green glints and fine, silky bubbles. The nose recalls rain on warm earth, with heady jasmine; the palate is broad, creamy and exotic, playing richness against tension, and the mineral finish lingers with citrus, candied zest and toast.

Dom Pérignon is named after the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, cellarer of the Abbey of Hautvillers from 1668 and a pioneer of blending in Champagne. The first vintage released was 1921.

Dom Pérignon is made only as a vintage Champagne. Vincent Chaperon has been Chef de Caves since 2019 and aims to bottle a Dom Pérignon in as many years as possible, as a record of each vintage.
