About this wine
Frog’s Leap 2023 Shale and Stone Chardonnay brings Napa Valley freshness into focus through a cool Carneros site. Chardonnay from Truchard Vineyard’s steep shale-and-sandstone hillside gives the wine a mineral backbone, while citrus peel, apricot and orchard-fruit flavors keep it generous. Brief contact with new French oak adds breadth; extended lees time in concrete builds texture without turning the wine heavy. Taut acidity and a stony close make this a poised, food-friendly white.

Frog’s Leap Winery grew from John Williams’s early Napa partnership, with its first release arriving in the early 1980s. The operation settled on a Rutherford Bench property in 1994, making an old red barn its home. Today, the family-led estate is recognized for organic farming, site-conscious wines and a sustained Napa Valley presence.
