It blends Jefferson's bourbon with both sweet and dry vermouth and barrel-aged spiced cherry bitters, then rests the finished cocktail in a used Jefferson's bourbon barrel; the brand's original notes cite four months. Jefferson's Bourbon was founded in 1997 by Trey Zoeller and his father Chet in Kentucky. The brand is known for blending and for experiments in aging, most famously sending barrels out to sea.

Its whiskeys are now produced at Kentucky Artisan Distillery near Louisville.
