Meiomi was created in 2006 by Joe Wagner, of the Napa winemaking family behind Caymus, and first released in 2009. The name means 'coast' in the language of the Wappo people of Northern California.

The idea was a coastal California Pinot Noir blended from several regions for a rich, plush style. Constellation Brands bought the brand in 2015.
