About this wine
Rodney Strong has made a Chalk Hill Chardonnay since 1977, when it released the first wine under that name, and this one draws on the estate's Arata, Pleasant and River East vineyards plus two long-time Healdsburg growers. Chalk Hill is a warm corner of the Russian River Valley with pale volcanic-ash soils that keep yields low. Expect lemon pie, custard and quince over creamy oak, with green apple and a grapefruit finish.

from the producer
Rodney Strong Vineyards dates from 1959, when Rod Strong, one of Sonoma County's early wine pioneers, started it in Healdsburg; the Klein family has owned it since 1989. Strong planted the first Chardonnay in what became the Chalk Hill AVA in 1965, and the winery now farms more than a thousand acres of estate vineyards across Sonoma County.
