About this wine
Toasted Head takes its name from the barrel heads, which are toasted along with the barrel staves to add extra toasty, caramel character. Most of the Chardonnay's fruit comes from the winery's estate in the Dunnigan Hills, about 20 miles east of Napa Valley, with the rest from Mendocino County. Warm days ripen the grapes fully, and cool nights keep the acidity fresh.
The grapes are picked at night, and all of the wine is fermented on its lees in a mix of American, Eastern European and French oak barrels, which are hand-stirred every two weeks. Only a small portion goes through malolactic fermentation, which helps the wine keep its natural acidity. This is the 2020 vintage.

from the producer
Toasted Head has crafted wines in California’s Dunnigan Hills since 1995. The name celebrates the old barrel-making practice of toasting barrel heads and staves, which lends mellow, smoky richness to barrel-aged wine. Its distinctive fire-breathing bear label reflects the brand’s playful identity and connection to California’s rural Yolo County landscape.
