About this wine
Morning Fog Chardonnay is named for the coastal fog that Pacific winds push into the bowl of the San Francisco Bay each morning, moderating the climate for balanced Chardonnay. It comes from Wente Vineyards, whose second-generation Ernest Wente imported Chardonnay cuttings from France in 1912; the resulting ‘Wente Clone’ is the source of over 75% of California Chardonnay today. The 2022 bursts with citrus and green apple, with hints of toasty oak and vanilla from barrel ageing, balanced by lingering minerality and natural acidity.

Wente Vineyards, founded in 1883, is still guided by the Wente family’s fourth and fifth generations. The estate farms vineyards in Livermore Valley and Arroyo Seco, Monterey. Its Chardonnay story began with French cuttings imported to Livermore in 1912, leading to the influential Wente Clone and a lasting California Chardonnay legacy.
