About this wine
Las Alturas means "the heights," and this vineyard sits on one of the highest benches in the Santa Lucia Highlands, reaching up to about 1,200 feet. Morning fog rolls in from Monterey Bay most days, and strong afternoon winds follow, which keeps the climate cool and the growing season long.
The wind also produces small, thick-skinned berries with deep color. The vines grow in sandy loam over a free-draining calcareous base, which naturally keeps yields low. Belle Glos winemaker Joseph Wagner aims for a layered, rich, fruit-forward style of California Pinot Noir. This is the 2021 vintage.
