About this wine
Château Taillefer sits on the southern side of the Pomerol plateau, on silica and gravel over blue clay rich in iron oxides — the source of its name. Run by Claire Moueix of the Bernard Moueix family, it is planted mostly to Merlot with some Cabernet Franc. The 2016, from a dry, cool year, is a powerful wine with a dense, velvety tannic frame and good ageing potential.

Bernard Moueix’s Château Taillefer has been part of the family’s Bordeaux history since Antoine Moueix acquired the property in 1923. Today, fifth-generation custodians Claire Moueix and Cyril Basteau oversee the estate. The vineyard occupies Pomerol’s southern plateau, where gravel, clay and iron-rich soils shape the estate’s distinctive sense of place.
