About this wine
Deus Ex Machina is Clos Saint-Jean's top Châteauneuf-du-Pape, named for the change of direction the estate took from 2003. Grenache from a 1905 planting on La Crau makes up 60% and is raised in concrete; Mourvèdre from Bois-Dauphin makes up 40% and spends nine months in new barrels. Yields are around 20 hectolitres per hectare and only free-run juice goes into the blend.

from the producer
Clos Saint-Jean is a historic Châteauneuf-du-Pape estate founded in 1900 by Edmund Tacussel and now guided by brothers Vincent and Pascal Maurel. Its vineyards are concentrated around La Crau, with additional sandy and limestone-rich parcels. Sustainable farming, hand work and estate bottling form the backbone of its contemporary Rhône identity.
