About this wine
La Landonne is one of Guigal's three single-vineyard Côte-Rôties. The vineyard was planted in 1975 on steep limestone-clay soils rich in iron oxide. The wine is 100% Syrah, vinified with whole bunches and a long maceration of at least four weeks.
It's then aged for around 40 months in new oak, and Guigal makes it to age for decades. This is the 2003 vintage, the year of Europe's record summer heat wave.

Maison E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis, at the heart of Côte-Rôtie. His son Marcel took over in 1961, and grandson Philippe now carries on as winemaker. The family bought Château d'Ampuis in 1995, added the Grippat and de Vallouit estates in 2001, built its own cooperage in 2003 and acquired Château de Nalys in 2017.
