About this wine

The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino from Tenuta Il Poggione brings the character of Montalcino to a more approachable expression than Brunello. Made entirely from Sangiovese grown in the estate’s younger vineyards, it combines fragrant red-berry fruit with a structured yet supple palate. Hand-harvested grapes ferment with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel, while time in large French-oak vessels and barriques softens the tannins and adds nuance. Expect a polished, savory Tuscan red with lively fruit, gentle spice and a smooth, lingering feel.

from the producer

Tenuta Il Poggione traces its story to Florentine landowner Lavinio Franceschi and was an early Brunello marketer in the 1900s. The estate helped establish the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium and remains family-run. Its 530-hectare property includes 140 hectares of vines, with vineyard work emphasizing careful, largely manual cultivation.
