About this wine
Poggio Salvi’s 2012 Campo del Bosco is a Toscana IGT red from the estate’s south-facing vineyards at Sovicille, near Siena, made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso. The best clusters are hand-picked in early October and about a third are dried; after a long maceration, a ‘governo’ of must from the dried grapes is added to build colour, body and texture. The wine then ages 12–14 months in French barriques and tonneaux and six more months in bottle. Expect intense ruby colour, wild berries, bread crust and vanilla, with a soft, velvety palate.
