About this wine

La Garnatxa Fosca del Priorat 2017, from Vintae’s Proyecto Garnachas, comes from vines more than 60 years old on steep slate slopes and terraces in the mountains around El Molar, at 300–400 metres. Mostly Garnacha with small amounts of Cariñena, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, it is hand-harvested at the turn of September and October, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel with two weeks’ maceration and aged 10 months in French oak barrels. The dark slate gives a mineral edge to Garnacha’s red fruit, and the palate is rich and savoury, balancing elegance with complexity and length.

Proyecto Garnachas de España is Vintae winemaker Raúl Acha’s journey through Spain’s Garnacha country. Inspired by his family’s century-old vines in La Rioja, Acha sought old vineyards across the Ebro basin and shaped a collection that highlights the grape’s distinctive character in each landscape, including Priorat’s slate mountains.
