About this wine

Quinta do Noval Nacional 2011 comes from a small parcel at the heart of the Noval vineyard planted with ungrafted vines, Portuguese vines on Portuguese soil, untouched by phylloxera. A challenging, dry and hot year produced magnificent wine: the Nacional was picked on 10 October, foot-trodden in the quinta’s stone lagares and made from Touriga Francesa, Tinto Cão, Touriga Nacional, Sousão, Tinta Roriz and Mourisco Tinto, then matured 18 months in wooden casks. Noval gives it ageing potential of up to a century.

Quinta do Noval is a historic Douro estate known for Nacional, made from native Portuguese vines growing on their own roots in a small heart-of-the-vineyard parcel. The house has selected Nacional declarations only in years of exceptional quality since 1994, and production remains deliberately tiny when the wine is made.
