About this wine
Riserva Ducale has been made since 1927 and honours the Duke of Aosta, who chose Ruffino as supplier to the royal household in 1890. The 2021, from a good vintage with well-spread spring rain and an ideal harvest, blends 80% Sangiovese with 10% each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Grapes come from Ruffino's own vineyards and long-standing Chianti Classico growers at 250–450 metres on limestone-rich silty clay. Sangiovese matures in large Slavonian oak casks while the Merlot and Cabernet go into barriques and tonneaux, followed by time in concrete and bottle.
