About this wine
First made in 1947 as a special selection of Riserva Ducale, Riserva Ducale Oro anticipated the Gran Selezione category by decades. It comes only from Ruffino's Gretole and Santedame estates in Castellina in Chianti, on well-drained shale and limestone at 300–450 metres. Total ageing is 30 months — large Slavonian casks for the Sangiovese, barriques and tonneaux for the other varieties, then concrete and bottle — and Ruffino rates its ageing potential in decades.

from the producer
Ruffino is a Tuscan wine house based at Pontassieve, near Florence. In 1890 the Duke of Aosta made it supplier to the Italian royal household — the origin of its Riserva Ducale, made since 1927. Today it has three estates and more than 200 hectares in Chianti Classico, plus estates elsewhere in Tuscany, and also makes wines from Orvieto, Veneto and Friuli.
