About this wine
Jacques Girardin farms 1.92 hectares of Santenay’s Clos Rousseau Premier Cru, on limestone and marl at the southern edge of the village next to Maranges, with vines averaging 45 years old. The grapes are destemmed and given a cool maceration to capture primary aromas, then fermented with indigenous yeasts and gentle extraction. Malolactic fermentation and ageing on the lees take place in barrel, for 15–18 months in all with 20% new oak. Deep garnet, it shows very ripe black currant and red plum, with layered texture, ripe tannins and a round, generous palate — a true food wine.
