About this wine
This 2009 Vintage Port comes from Taylor Fladgate’s Quinta de Vargellas in the Douro, from the estate’s old vines (Vinha Velha), whose deep roots coped well with a scorching, almost rainless late summer. Yields were very low, and the old-vine musts were even more concentrated than usual, with high levels of sugar, tannin and colour. Deep purple-black, it shows powerful plum, black cherry and cassis against rosewood and clove, with a heady scent of violets; dense, thickly textured tannins carry massive volume, weight and grip into a long, rich finish.

Its flagship estate, Quinta de Vargellas in the eastern Douro, has been prized since the 1820s, was bought in 1893 and is the source of its most sought-after single-quinta Vintage Ports.
