About this wine
Vietti’s classic Barolo, long sold as “Castiglione” after the winery’s home village of Castiglione Falletto, blends Nebbiolo from a selection of vineyards across the communes of Castiglione Falletto, Monforte, Barolo and Novello, including Bussia, Ravera, Fossati and Bricco Fiasco, on clay and limestone. Each cru is hand-harvested, fermented and aged on its own: three to four weeks on the skins in steel, malolactic in wood, then around 30 months mostly in large barrels before the lots are blended. From the 2021 vintage the front label simply reads Barolo. Expect an explosive, opulent nose of plum, cherry, rose petal and tobacco and a rich, potent, balsamic palate.

from the producer
Vietti was founded in the late 1800s by Carlo Vietti at the top of the medieval village of Castiglione Falletto, in the heart of the Langhe. Alfredo Currado made it a pioneer, with one of the first single-cru Barolos in 1961 and the first pure Roero Arneis in 1967. The Krause family has owned the winery since 2016.
