About this wine
This Riserva is the wine Fattoria del Cerro sees as the story of its estate: the first Vino Nobile it made when the denomination began. Fattoria del Cerro, at Acquaviva near Montepulciano, is the largest private producer of Vino Nobile, and this wine comes from its highest vineyards, where Prugnolo Gentile — the local Sangiovese — has grown for more than 30 years on the area’s blue clay, with a little of the other traditional varieties. After a temperature-controlled fermentation and an extended warm maceration, the 2019 aged 18 months in oak and six in bottle. Expect intense red fruit, a full-bodied palate and a long, fruit-driven finish.

Fattoria del Cerro sits at Acquaviva, just outside Montepulciano in the province of Siena. Of its 600 hectares, 181 are vineyards and 93 are registered for Vino Nobile, which makes it the largest private producer of the appellation. Part of the Tenute del Cerro group since 1978, the estate helped lead the revival of Vino Nobile quality in the 1980s.
