About this whiskey
Basil Hayden is the gentle member of the bourbon family. Booker Noe created it in 1992 with a high-rye mash bill inspired by an 18th-century Kentucky distiller, aiming for a refined, approachable bourbon that would win over newcomers.
It is golden brown, with charred oak, vanilla caramel and a hint of dried fruit on the nose. The palate adds brown sugar and a touch of black pepper, and the finish lingers on charred oak and dried fruit. At 80 proof it is easy to sip neat and works in lighter, spirit-forward cocktails.

from the producer
Basil Hayden was created in 1992 by Booker Noe, the Beam family master distiller, as part of a small-batch bourbon collection. He wanted a gentler, more approachable side of bourbon that would welcome new drinkers.
The name honors Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., a Maryland rye farmer who moved to Kentucky in 1792 and made his whiskey with more rye than was usual. Today the range includes Basil Hayden 10 Year Old, Toast, and a Red Wine Cask Finish.
