Glenfiddich was founded by William Grant, who built the distillery by hand with his nine children in Dufftown, in Speyside, and ran the first spirit on Christmas Day 1887. The name means "valley of the deer" in Gaelic, which is why a stag appears on every bottle.

The distillery is still owned and run by the founder's descendants through William Grant & Sons, and its triangular bottle and fresh, fruity house style made it one of the most widely enjoyed single malts in the world.
