About this whiskey
Maker's 46 grew out of Bill Samuels Jr.'s wish to make a bolder, deeper Maker's with a long finish. Fully matured, cask-strength Maker's Mark gets ten seared French oak staves (Stave Profile No. 46) inserted into the barrel and finishes in the distillery's limestone cellar.
The nose shows toasty French oak, caramel and baking spice. The palate is mildly sweet and layered, with rich vanilla and spice, and the finish is velvety and long. It makes an excellent Manhattan.

from the producer
Bill Samuels Sr. started the Maker's Mark distillery at Star Hill Farm in Loretto, Kentucky, in 1952, famously burning the old family recipe to make a bourbon without the burn. His wife, Margie Samuels, named the brand and designed the bottle, label and red wax seal.
The first hand-dipped bottle was finished in 1958. The distillery draws water from its own spring-fed, limestone-filtered lake, rotates its barrels by hand, and is now run by Rob Samuels, the eighth generation of the family to make whisky.
