About this whiskey
DoubleWood is the expression that made The Balvenie famous and an early example of cask finishing. It spends its first years in traditional American oak whisky casks, then moves into European oak Oloroso sherry casks for around nine months.
The result is sweet fruit and sherry on the nose with honey and vanilla, a smooth palate of nutty sweetness and cinnamon spice, and a long, warming finish.

from the producer
The Balvenie distillery was built by William Grant in 1892 beside Glenfiddich in Dufftown, Speyside, and is still owned by his family's company, William Grant & Sons.
It is known for keeping traditional crafts in house: a working floor maltings, a cooperage, a coppersmith tending the stills, and barley grown on the distillery's own farm. That hands-on approach, and decades of cask-finishing experiments led by Malt Master David Stewart, define its honeyed style.
