About this whiskey

PortWood 21 is one of The Balvenie's signature older malts. After more than two decades in traditional oak, the whisky is finished in casks that previously held aged tawny port, which adds dried fruit and silk.

Ripe raisin and nutty dryness lead the nose; the palate is creamy and silky with fruit, honey and spice, and the finish is long, gentle and nutty.

from the producer

The Balvenie distillery was built by William Grant in 1892 beside Glenfiddich in Dufftown, Speyside, and is still owned by his family's company, William Grant & Sons.

It is known for keeping traditional crafts in house: a working floor maltings, a cooperage, a coppersmith tending the stills, and barley grown on the distillery's own farm. That hands-on approach, and decades of cask-finishing experiments led by Malt Master David Stewart, define its honeyed style.
