The Glenlivet was founded by George Smith in 1824, when it became the first legal distillery in the parish of Glenlivet in Speyside, after years in which the glen was famous for illicit stills.
It went on to become one of the defining single malts of Speyside, known for a smooth, fruity and floral house style, and today it is one of the best-selling single malt Scotch whiskies in the world.
