from the producer
W.L. Weller is named for William Larue Weller, a Kentucky distiller of the mid-1800s credited as one of the first to make bourbon with wheat instead of rye as the secondary grain. That "wheated" recipe gives Weller its soft, sweet, approachable character.
Today Weller is distilled at Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, using the same wheated mash bill as the Van Winkle bourbons, and it is one of the most sought-after names in American whiskey.
- Kentucky straight wheated bourbon
