from the producer
Yamazaki is Japan's first malt whisky distillery, founded in 1923 by Shinjiro Torii, the founder of Suntory, in the valley where the Katsura, Uji and Kizu rivers meet near Kyoto. The site was chosen for its soft water and misty, humid climate.
Yamazaki uses stills of many shapes and sizes and a wide range of casks, including Japanese Mizunara oak, to create a complex, layered single malt.
